Which test methods apply to tensile strength and elongation?

2026-10-16
Two families dominate. ISO 9073-3 specifies the strip method for tensile strength and elongation at break of nonwovens, and ASTM D5035 covers breaking strength and elongation using both raveled-strip and grab methods. The detail that matters commercially is this: tensile figures are not comparable across methods. Always ask your supplier to state the method, the specimen width and the jaw speed alongside the number, or you cannot benchmark two suppliers against each other.
