Can spunbond be printed, laminated, coated or dyed?

2026-10-16
Yes, with different levels of ease. Lamination and coating are routine — spunbond bonds readily to film, paper, nonwoven backing and textile lining using heat-activated adhesive or flame lamination. Printing works for promotional and bag applications, though the substrate is non-absorbent, so ink choice and surface treatment matter. Dyeing is the hardest: because PP is hydrophobic and has no reactive sites, colour is normally added as masterbatch pigment during extrusion rather than dyed after production — which is why colour is set at the production order stage and why batch-to-batch colour consistency should be written into the specification.
