How is GSM measured and verified?

2026-10-16
GSM is mass per unit area, determined under EN ISO 9073-1, the standard test method for the mass per unit area of nonwoven fabrics. In commercial practice, buyers cut fixed-area specimens (commonly 100 × 100 mm) from several points across the roll width, weigh them on a calibrated scale, convert to g/m², and compare both the mean and the worst-case deviation against the contracted tolerance. Always request the mill's GSM test report as well: it is the document that clears a customs exam quickly
